IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CLASSES
- A 100 question with multiple choice is given for either class. If you pass the test with at least 80%, you will be awarded a Hunter Safety card issued from the Department of Fish & Game. Successful graduates then take the card to a sporting goods store and buy a Hunting License
What happens if you don't pass the test?
You may come back to any other class we have scheduled and retake the whole class or just retake the test for no additional charge.
Have you lost your Hunter Safety Education card?
If you took the class at our location, we can reissue you a duplicate if we find your name in our system.
Cost: $20.00
Spanish instructors, books and tests are available, but not for the Internet Class
At what age can kids first take the hunter safety course, go on their first hunt, and then what can they hunt for?
Since the Department of Fish and Game is a state agency, it can't discriminate by age. According to DFG, it is up to the discretion of the parent or guardian to decide when their child has the maturity and upper body strength to safely manipulate a firearm.
FOR JUNIOR HUNTERS
A junior hunter needs to attend a Hunter Education class and take a written test. Once juniors have passed the test, they can obtain a hunting license and may hunt any legal species (except big game, if they are under the age of 12. Once they have turned 12, they may then apply for big game tags and hunt big game with their Junior Hunting License and appropriate big game tag.)
A Letter to Raahauge's concerning the class:
Hi Mike,
I just want to thank you and your team of instructors for giving such an indepth and informative class. They really drove home the basics: safe muzzle direction, keep your damn finger off the trigger and always keep your safety on until you shoot.
My son told me that he's heard that before because I've been drilling that into him and his two brothers' heads for years, but for those at the class that may not have heard it, your instructors did an excellent job of stressing those basic rules.
They also did a great job on all the other issues of safe hunting to hunting ethics to conservation. I originally had just my son signed up for the class and I planned to spend some time shooting clays to pass the time until I heard (instructor) Ron (Owen) mention the Hunter's Safety Course Completion Card and how important it was if you ever want to hunt out of state.
I have friends and family in Arizona and Texas so I signed up during one of the breaks and I'm sure glad I did.
You guys put on a good class and with the number of instructors and their different personalities, it's hard to get bored. My son really liked Ron. He was busting him up. I just want to thank you and your team for teaching my son and all the other young hunters the right way.
Got to go now. After leaving the class yesterday, we stopped at Turner's and got Matt his hunting license. So it's time to wake him up so we can get out and chase some quail around. Thanks again for a job well done.
